It's that time again!! Monday means a new follower of the week... So for this week we have Josh Oyinsan!
Josh has been a loyal follower since the launch of AIB and has actively helped in gaining us followers (Thanks Josh!). Not only this but Josh is someone we believe to be an inspiration for our readers.
At the age of 15 Josh focused his life on football, having never played for a club Josh was lucky enough to get a trial at Barnet! Unfortunately things didn't go as planned however 3 months later he was asked to return and got signed! He was taken on as part of the apprenticeship deal they have at Barent. Playing under Rossi Eames Josh comments "he was a great coach to me, which was really important as it was my first deal at a well known club". Prior to this achievement Josh was playing for 6 months at AFC Wimbledon.
Spending 2 Amazing years at Barnet lead Josh to have many opportunities, one of them in particular was meeting Ralph Newbrook (The head of Nike academy)The pair created a good relationship which led to Josh being offered a place on trial for Nike Academy. Putting this into perspective for you all 90 people are invited to the Nike academy trials and ONLY 3 are picked!!!!! You can imagine how competitive it is to get in... Well of course he only went and did it didn't he! Josh got picked!! *Crowd goes wild* This was Josh's first Pro deal.
The Nike academy was an exceptional experience for the young player as he was mingling with and playing against some of the best pro footballers such Chuba Akpom- Arsenal player who is on loan to hull and Jonathan Greening who has now retired. This meant it was hard to keep up "but after a while you could see and feel the improvement within yourself and others around you" Josh explains. "Playing under Jimmy Gillian the head coach at Nike academy I remember one day just walking around the training ground & Steven Gerrard saying good morning to me. Such a surreal moment but I had to suck it up and act as normal as possible!!" (We can only imagine how crazy it is to see your idols actually in the same place as you let alone saying good morning to you!! Good?! This is a GREAT morning Gerrard come on now!!)
"I was still pinching myself & realising how lucky I am and all I could think about was how I didn't want to waste this opportunity"
I asked Josh what his proudest moment has been so far.
"My proudest moment came when I scored the winning goal v PSG it was a long journey to France that day so we were all tired. Not only this but I had endless calls from my mum & dad wishing me luck.. I had been told I wasn't starting that game so I wasn't too happy, being supportive parents they were just encouraging me and lifting my spirits. We got there and played up until 45 minutes, we had just missed a penalty so I got told to come on. I knew when I came on I had one job to do (No pressure Josh )and God willingly I scored! *crowd goes even wilder than before*
Usually I talk about the Followers of the week and explain what they do but Josh has such a big personality every time I try and write what he's explained to me I can't help but think his version is better! So to finish off Ill let Josh explain what he's up to now ...
" I'm playing in non league right now trying to play as high as possible I've found my self @ Histon FC in the Evo Stik Prem and I'm on 7 goals so far...I'm praying for the best. I've been asked to do some doubling work with the likes of Danny Welbeck which is really exciting but also assuming because I'm one better looking one...sorry Danny it's just opinions *he chuckled* ... but I'm really looking forward to that !"
Haha!! Told you he's funny Lool! We wish you all the best Josh! Keep striving for success and being an inspiration.
